Accenture Match Play tournament officials announced the grand total for 2012 from the February tournament, over $1.2 million was generated for Tucson area charities. 

Since 2007 when the tournament was moved to Tucson, over $8.8 million has been generated for area charities, with over $39.5 million going to charitable organizations since the tournament began in 1999. 

“Today rivals Championship Sunday as the most exciting day for our tournament all year,” said Gerald Goodman, executive director of the Accenture Match Play Championship, in a recent news release.  “All of us associated with the Accenture Match Play Championship are so proud of the impact the event makes on the local area.  I’d like to thank our title sponsor Accenture, the Tucson Conquistadores, the tournament staff and all of the fans who support our efforts and ensure this event’s impact continues year after year.”

“In conjunction with our sponsorship of the Accenture Match Play Championship, Accenture is delighted to work with the PGA TOUR, the Tucson Conquistadores and the Tucson and Marana communities in supporting local charitable organizations,” said Accenture chief marketing & communications officer, Roxanne Taylor, in the same release. “In addition to raising funds for the many worthwhile charities, the 2013 Accenture Match Play Championship promises to be an exciting world-class professional golf event for the thousands who have the opportunity to attend, as well as for the millions of television viewers around the world.”

Local charities that benefit from tournament proceeds are: the Tucson Conquistadores youth charities, including The First Tee of Tucson, Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA, Pima County Special Olympics and the Southern Arizona Community Sports Center at Curtis Park.  With approximately 1,500 local youth participants, The First Tee of Tucson is a non-profit organization that strives to promote sportsmanship, character development and life enhancing values to youth of all backgrounds, ages 5-17.  Since 1962, The Tucson Conquistadores have contributed more than $26 million to youth organizations. 

“What a great way to cap off our 50-year anniversary with today’s announcement of another highly successful year for charity through the Accenture Match Play Championship,” said Brandt Hazen, president of the Tucson Conquistadores, in a recent press release. “Through this event, and thanks to Accenture’s title sponsorship and our long-standing partnership with the PGA TOUR, we have been able to make a significant impact in the lives of our community’s children.  We look forward to 50 more years, millions more raised for charity and making thousands more dreams come true.”

The Accenture Match Play Championship, scheduled for February 18 – 24 in 2013, is the first in a series of four World Golf Championships events in 2013. The tournament has been played in the Tucson area since 2007 and at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain since 2009. Two special Accenture Match Play Championship holiday ticket packages are now available through December 31:

  • Purchase a good-any-one-day ticket for $49 and receive a complimentary ticket to Sunday’s final round;
  • Purchase the Dove Mountain Golf Pack for $289 and receive two good-any-one-day tickets, one parking pass and two rounds of golf at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain.
