Two teens charged with murder in Marana teen's death | Crime
Marana police have arrested two teen-agers in connection with the murder of a 16-year-old whose body was found a week ago in Marana.
Police say Dante Ishmael Solomon, 17, and Santos Angel Hernandez, 15, stabbed Austin Wayne Maudsley to death.
Solomon and Hernandez both face first-degree murder and robbery charges.
They were arrested late Thursday night.
The last day the victim's parents saw their son alive was March 11. The family was at Oro Mae Harn Park watching Maudsley's sister play softball when he went missing.
Police say Maudsley encountered the two suspects at the park.
They then walked to a nearby apartment where one of them lives. As the Maudsley waited outside, Hernandez and Solomon retrieved two knives from the home and planned the attack, says Marana Police Chief Terry Rozema. He says they knew Maudsley was carrying money. According to Rozema, all three teens walked to a vacant field near Clark Farms and Sandario roads.
"Both the subjects turned on Austin. They began to stab him. They took Austin's wallet and left him to die," Rozema says.
Solomon and Hernandez were processed in the Pima County Jail as adults.
