Rattlesnake Ridge Elementary teacher awarded a $5,000 grant

Physical Education elementary school teacher Carol Wolbert challenged her 95 fifth-graders to eat healthier and get more exercise for 28 consecutive days. Their efforts were awarded with a $5,000 grant for Rattlesnake Ridge Elementary School from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona.

School districts starting free summer food programs

Several school districts in Tucson and surrounding communities are offering free summer meal programs at their schools.  Many students who rely on school lunches would go hungry without these vital summer programs.  

If there is not a school close to your area serving these free meals, parents can click on the following website http://www.azsummerfood.gov/food-site-locations and put in your zip code to see what schools closest to you are serving.

Select Amphitheater Schools will be serving breakfast and lunch to students during summer school this year. 

The Amphitheater Public School District is partnering with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide these free meals.  Any child under 18 may come and eat. 

Free meals will be provided at the following five sites, at the dates and times listed below:

The Marana Unified School District (MUSD) Food Services Department is working to make sure that no children in the community go hungry when school is out.

Starting June 3, three MUSD schools will be participating in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program (SFP), serving free breakfast and lunch meals.

Third graders at DeGrazia Elementary donate their 'Pennies for Puppies'

In honor of Arizona's Day of Giving, third graders in Mrs. Gromley's class at DeGrazia Elementary School chose to collect money for the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.

The students collected 'Pennies for Puppies', when the fundraiser was over the students had collected $131.

Since it was Arizona's Day of Giving, a generous community member matched the students’ contribution; bringing the student's total to $262 for the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.
